Think Globally, Shop Locally!
Sorry - hasn't been much time for me to post lately, but YOU are WELCOME to write a story! In fact, I BEG you to write a story about what's going on in your building, or anything else you'd like to share with the rest of the neighborhood.
But at this moment, I'm going to take a moment to remind you to Think Globally and Shop Locally. Independent stores here in the neighborhood rely on your support. The more support we get, the more interested other stores are in coming down here and opening up.
Rumors worth reporting: I hear that there's a new restaurant and grocery (?) at the corner of 4th & Oak - across from the Shell Station. As soon as I have a chance, I'll go check it out. If YOU check it out, report back and let us know!
We have a lot of new merchants in the neighborhood - Amanda's Hair Salon has been there a few months, but Gail Morefield, recently of Kodiak, Alaska has just bought the store and is making some changes. I got my hair cut, as well as a manicure and pedicure and I think it's great!
Breks Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge is another fairly new restaurant (with full bar) that is located at 581 Fifth St between Jefferson & Clay. They've done a fantastic job with the remodel and I hope that we can find our way down there real soon.
TGIFriday's, El Torito, and the Spaghetti Factory are now closed, in case you haven't been down to the Square lately. The Port has big plans for remodeling the whole area. The remodeling of 66 Franklin (the building where Spaghetti Factory was) is underway, and already you can see a very interesting concrete building with beautiful arches coming out from behind all the aluminum siding.
Other merchants worth visiting this holiday season for last minute gifts are:
A Taste of Asia (in Jack London Square where Scotland Gifts used to be)
Lan Vie (lovely Asian apparel for women)
Kendall's New York Fashions (for the young and hip)
Barnes & Noble (if you can't find a gift there, you're not trying!)
Hat Generation, California Kayak (a gift certificate?!)
Karibu
Murasaki
Olga's Russian Gifts
Ironworks (one of my personal favorites!)
Bed, Bath & Beyond
Cost Plus
Black Sea Gallery (besides furniture, they have some nice gifts!)
Markus Supply Ace Hardware (all sorts of fun stuff, including holiday decor)
And of course, JACK LONDON MAIL! We've got GREAT last minute gift items, FABULOUS greeting cards, and of course we'll pack and ship your packages to their holiday destination.
Happy Holidays from the Jack London Merchants!
