JLS BART feasibility study published
You may not have heard about it, but BART has been conducting a feasibility study for locating a BART station close to Jack London Square. BART, City of Oakland and community representitives have been meeting to discuss and review the study for several months and the final document has now been published.
Unfortunately it was decided early on in the study that locating a BART station in our district would be too expensive and too disruptive to the BART system to be feasible. Therefore the study goes on to look at several alternatives that could provide a better transit link from our district to the existing BART stations, the favourite being a street car.
If you would like to know what the future of public transit in this area could look like, or are just curious how you tax dollars get spent then Part 1 and Part 2 are available at the BART planning website.

Jack London Square website brushed off
The website dedicated to Jack London Square has recently been updated and given a new look. In fact it doesn't even list the recently closed down restaurants (TGIF, El Torrito and Spaghetti Factory) so it looks like the new owners of the site are doing a good job of keeping its contents accurate. It also lists all the restaurants that are open, the various attractions at the Square, and provides details of how to sponsor a wolf track, and how to get a Jack London Square shopper discount card.
Of greatest interest to our readers will be its events calendar that currently lists events through to the end of 2005! Note that the list they provide does not include events outside of the Square so please also check our list too which we will endeavor to keep current with local events in the greater Jack London District as well as the Square.
If you have an event to list in the calendar then please send details to calendar@jacklondondistrict.org
