Two shootings in the Jack London District
The Jack London News has confirmed with the Oakland Police Department that there were two shootings in the Jack London District last weekend. The first incident was an armed robbery, which occurred at 2:20 a.m. on 11/12/05 (Saturday morning) at 450 4th St., the the second occurred at 1:28 a.m. on 11/13/05 (Sunday morning) in front of 189 3rd Street (World Ground Cafe).

The incidents were mentioned briefly in the Oakland Tribune and on the SF Gate website. Both these incidents occurred very late on weekend nights, around the time when we experience a lot of traffic and commotion from party goers leaving the area. We advise you to be vigilant during those hours if your are out on the streets.

If you see suspicious behavior or witness an actual crime you should not hesitate to call the police. The OPD direct access emergency number is (510) 777-3211, for non emergency calls use (510) 777-3333. If you use a cellphone to call for an emergency you should always use the direct number as dialing 911 connects you to the California Highway Patrol and will cause a longer response time.
