Another Mingles Related Shooting
A 22-year old man was shot at Mingles early Friday morning around 2am. According to the article in today's Oakland Tribune, the man claims to have been shot just outside the front entrance, while nightclub owner John Ivey Sr. claims that he was shot blocks away. In any case, Mr. Ivey is probably right in guessing that his nightclub will get the blame regardless of where he was shot. Just the fact that the man in question had been at the club is a factor.

Hearing Officer Barbara Killey was quoted as saying that she will review the report on the incident and make a decision as to whether to take action against the club. Mingles has been in discussions for some time with her and the OPD in regards to adding more security and changing the dress code, the latter which Mr. Ivey has resisted until now. According to the Tribune article Mr. Ivey has said that he was implementing a new dress code this weekend. The trick will be to see if Mingles sticks with a new dress code for the long term or whether they give up after a single weekend.

Join JLDA - Today!
The Jack London District Association now provides an easier way to join. Membership can now be processed online and paid for with PayPal.

What do you get as a member? Well, maybe nothing tangible just yet, but the organization is there to support the neighborhood by giving it a solid voice. Dealing with the City with construction issues, constantly working to make parking improvements with the District, and organizing events to bring the feel of a community to the area are just a few of the reasons JLDA is so important to the area.

Take a moment. Give support to the neighborhood. Join JLDA today!

Tall Ships Dock at Jack London Square
Take a walk to Jack London Square (albeit bundled up!) and see the Tall Ships. I've been down twice and still managed to forget the camera, so if you take a few photos, send them on and I'll put them on the Flickr site - which I'll be working on all weekend...

Wreck shuts down Jackson St Offramp Thursday
For several hours on Thursday, 3/9/06, the Jackson Street offramp from 880S was closed while fire and towing crews worked to remove a vehicle.

The speeding vehicle was out of control when it ended up on the wall of the ramp and managed to get wrapped around a pole. The driver is extremely lucky to be alive. The driver of the car below the wreck was a bit upset returning to find her car with a broken windshield.

I'm posting photos on Flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/jacklondonnews/

This Flickr thing is new for me, so be patient.... things may get re-organized throughout the course of the weekend.

March Print Edition of Jack London News Now Available
The print edition for the March copy of Jack London News is available now at Sierra Deli, Sierra Salon, Peerless Coffee, Subway, Cuckoo's Nest, and Jack London Mail.

I am looking for a better way of providing the print edition specifically to the apartments at the Landing, and if you are a resident there with any ideas, I'd love to hear them. The newsletter should be handed out at most of the other loft/apartment/condo buildings and businesses by now.

If you would like to receive a hard copy of the Jack London News by US Mail (it's 4 pages and in color this time!), I might be willing to create a subscription offering... send me an email at editor@jacklondonnews.com with your comments and suggestions.

Thanks,
The Editor.
