Fireworks Cancelled Tonight - Environment Concerns?
After the uproar over the Port cancelling the July 4th fireworks, they decided to have instead have fireworks at the Oakland World Music & Jazz Festival tonight.

Well, guess what? Cancelled again, and the one lone electronic sign near Middle Harbor Shoreline Park said "Fireworks Cancelled - Environment Concerns". Guess it was a last minute environmental concern, because there wasn't any mention of the cancellation in today's Oakland Tribune (or at least in the online edition).

That's pretty darn lame.

The Port's website says that fireworks begin at 9pm (uh, guess they didn't let their webmaster know that the fireworks were environmentally unfriendly), but then on the schedule it lists a laser light show at 9:20p. There were some green laser lights in the sky, so maybe they traded fireworks for lasers.

Still lame.

UPDATE: There was an article on the Oakland Tribune website, it just didn't come up until yesterday. Here is the link. The article was last updated 7/27, which is odd since I searched for it Saturday night and it didn't show, but never the less, it seems like they would have had four weeks to figure it out about the birds and let others know further in advance than a mere day and with one sign right next to the park entrance.
